Abstract
For the first time in historiography the article examines the biography of one of the peasant leaders of the «Chigirin Conspiracy» of 1877. This conspiracy was prepared among the former state peasants of Right- Bank Ukraine by revolutionaries I. V. Bokhanovsky, L. G. Deich and Ya. V. Stefanovich. The course of events is shown in their refraction in the fate of the ataman of the «Secret Squad» Yefim Oleinik. On the basis of archival documents the features of his life before the «Chigirin Conspiracy» and during the conspiracy itself are reconstructed. The rise and fall of the peasant leader is analyzed, up to imprisonment and sentencing.
