Abstract
This article reviews an approach to language pedagogy that shows how culture can play a central role in foreign language learning and contribute to the development of a comprehensive person. The concept of language pedagogy is considered using an activity system as a tool for the development of a comprehensive person, which combines research into the study of culture through language and the theory of cultural-historical activity. Language teaching and learning requires a more adequate conceptualization of culture and human activity.
